This song ‘Dirty’ by Jessie Murph featuring Teddy Swims tells the story of a broken relationship full of betrayal and anger. Both singers express their frustration and pain, pointing fingers at each other for the mess they’ve ended up in. It’s raw and emotional, a no-holds-barred kind of confrontation.
Jessie Murph starts off by expressing her anger and disbelief. She wakes up mad and has this urge to lash out, saying, ‘Flipped the switch, I had the urge to beat yo’ ass.’ She’s clearly been hurt badly, feeling betrayed in various ways.
Then she continues with ‘You fucked it up with me all kinds of ways, I’m mad.’ Jessie doesn’t hold back, calling out her partner for messing things up and expressing her lack of mercy. She tells him he doesn’t deserve her and hopes he suffers for what he did. Her anger is palpable.
When Teddy Swims jumps in, he gives his side of the story. He finds all his stuff thrown out and tries to explain that the girl Jessie was worried about was just a friend. He sings, ‘Girl, go ahead and check my phone, Ain’t shit you gon’ find.’ He’s defensive, but also seems to understand why Jessie is mad.
The chorus is where they both come together, agreeing that the situation is ‘dirty.’ The repetition of ‘I got no mercy, That shit was dirty’ hammers home the bitterness and pain. They both acknowledge that the hurt they’ve caused each other is deep and hard to move past.
